Catan is a classic board game.
Having played over 100+ games of Catan over the past few years I have stumbled upon a really good strategy which I consider to be an optimal strategy.
Here it is:
Favour Odds over Resources
I always see my opponents when they place their initial settlements; they opt for hexes which are Ore’s first. I get their logic. The reason behind that is the more Ore’s you produce; the faster you get to either buy development cards or upgrade settlements to cities with the latter being the most lucrative action.
